Description

Day 1: Arrival and Tharu Village Life Arrive in Sauraha and settle into your riverside stay. In the late afternoon, join a guided cycling ride through Tharu villages, where your guide, born and raised in the community, explains the mud-and-dung architecture, indigenous farming, and how the Tharu people developed natural resistance to malaria over centuries in the jungle. As dusk falls, join a Tharu family in their courtyard to help prepare dinner over a traditional clay stove: dhikri rice dumplings, seasonal vegetables, and if you're adventurous, ghonghi snails. Eat what you cook, together. Day 2: Full-Day Jeep Safari and Sunset on the Rapti After breakfast, cross into Chitwan National Park for a full-day 4x4 jeep safari deep into the core area, far beyond where half-day tours turn back. Chitwan holds one of the world's largest populations of greater one-horned rhinos, plus spotted deer, wild boar, langurs, over 500 bird species, and, for the lucky, the Bengal tiger. Your naturalist guide reads tracks, calls, and alarm signals to find wildlife ethically, at a respectful distance. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park. Return for a sunset walk along the Rapti riverbank, then an evening Tharu cultural performance featuring the famous stick dance. Day 3: Sunrise Canoe and Jungle Walk Wake early for a silent dugout canoe ride down the Rapti as mist lifts off the water, the best hour for gharial and mugger crocodiles and kingfishers. Follow with a short guided nature walk through the buffer-zone community forest, then a visit to the Tharu Cultural Museum to close the loop on everything you've experienced.
