Description
At 5:00 AM, our driver will pick you up for the approximately 4-hour journey to Haridwar. Located 214 km from Delhi, Haridwar is a sacred city in the state of Uttarakhand, northern India. Its name, 'the gate of God,' reflects its status as one of India's holiest Hindu sites, steeped in mysticism and devotion. Situated on the banks of the Ganges River, Haridwar attracts Hindu pilgrims worldwide, drawn to the confluence of the river's mountain origins with the plains of North India.
Haridwar boasts several tourist attractions, including Har-ki-Pauri, named after the footprints of Lord Vishnu, where pilgrims take holy baths in the Brahmakund. The highlight is the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti ceremony at twilight, where the golden hues of floating lamps reflect on the Ganges. Another notable site is the Mansa Devi Temple, offering panoramic views of Haridwar and completing the triangle of sacred sites with Chandi Devi Temple and Maya Devi Temple.
Rishikesh, a small town in Uttarakhand, remains a focal point for yoga enthusiasts worldwide, earning its reputation as the 'Yoga Capital of the World.' Notably, the Beatles visited Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's ashram here, situated amidst the stunning Himalayan foothills where the Ganges originates. Rishikesh marks the gateway to the Himalayas and is often the starting point for the Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage.
In Rishikesh, explore attractions like the Triveni Ghat, ideal for bathing in the sacred Ganges waters and witnessing the evening prayer ceremonies. The iconic Lakshman Jhula, a suspension bridge across the Ganges, and the nearby historic footbridge named after Lord Rama's brother, Lakshman, are must-visit spots. Swarg Ashram, with its numerous ashrams, food stalls, and shops, is a hub for spiritual seekers.
Finally, in Haridwar, immerse yourself in the evening Ganga Aarti ceremony, where priests perform rituals to honor the river, followed by devotees seeking blessings and purification. After a full day of exploration, you will be driven back to Delhi, arriving around 10 p.m., completing your enriching journey through these sacred cities.
