Be welcomed in an island theme at the St John's Inn and enter an air-conditioned venue. Take a journey with through the Pacific Islands. Watch captivating performers with live Polynesian music, ethnic dances, and Samoan fire knife performances. See traditional hula, an art of storytelling that originated from a series of only six moves. Witness ancient hula that was performed for the Hawaiian Volcano goddess, Pele and modern hula where the Hawaiian goddess Laka is the keeper of the dance and was honored with prayers, offerings and leis given by the dancers. Be mesmerized as dancers create a wide range of interpretations and use the basic moves to create an enchanting performance. After the ritual, be enchanted as dancers placed their leis on the altar of Laka as an offering of flowers to the goddess. Witness a display of a Samoan warrior’s courage with Ailao Afi, Fire Knife Dancing which is comprised of daring spins, as they throw and catch a wooden 'anava' warrior club. View the serrated edges and teeth this unique Samoan weapon. When European and American whalers ventured to Samoa, they introduced the Samoan natives to their long-handled blubber knife and the hook cane knife. Admire how Samoan warriors incorporated the metal characteristics of European whaling knifes knives into the Samoan wooden nifo’oti, which resembles the unique hooked component when it is either carved from wood or forged from steel.
