Walking distance from India Gate and War Memorial. Outstanding breakfast experience! The breakfast plate is an absolute winner—the idli was really soft, the dosa came filled with delicious aloo masala, and the vada was perfectly crispy. The best part? Generous refilling of their amazing sambar, red chutney, and coconut chutney. Topped it all off with a hot cup of tea/coffee. The staff is warm and courteous, making the whole meal even better.
Andhra Bhawan Canteen on Ashoka Road is a Delhi legend for authentic, tongue-tickling South Indian food. Known for its fast-paced energy and quick service, it offers an unbeatable meal for anyone craving fiery Andhra flavors on a budget. The star is the Unlimited Veg Thali, loaded with steaming rice, flavorful pappu (dal), tangy rasam, sambar, curd, and spicy gunpowder (pudi) topped with ghee. Non-vegetarians shouldn't skip side dishes like the iconic Mutton Fry, Chicken Fry, or Prawn Curry—spicy, aromatic, and packed with heat. The ambience is basic and canteen-style with shared tables, and weekend wait times can run long. However, for sheer value, speed, and genuine Telugu spice, it remains unmatched in the capital.
It's a mess to get into the restaurant, to buy the token, to find a seat. It's a total mess. The entire restaurant is claustrophobic, unhygienic, noisy and crowded. I had to wait 45 minutes to get a seat. I had the most popular thali, which was delicious and served unlimited. The service is lightning fast and commendable, they keep asking all the time what else do we need. Dishes are served hot and fresh. I just say that the food was really delicious and most authentic. But yes, it was oily and served unhygienic. The floor, seating, wash area all are cramped and untidy.
