Take a morning birdwatching walk at the Yamuna Biodiversity Park near Wazirabad,you’ll spot kingfishers and maybe even a grey Francolin if you’re lucky. And don’t overlook the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, just an hour’s drive away. It's a favorite among locals during winter when migratory birds like flamingos and raptors fill the skies.

For something different, the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary at the city’s edge offers trekking that feels quite remote, even though you’re still in Delhi territory. The monsoons bring a burst of greenery and wildflowers there, a stunning change from the usual dusty views. Pro tip: go early morning for the best chance to spot deer and langurs roaming around.

These tours aren’t just about watching animals, they’re a lovely way to breathe some fresh air without leaving the city too far behind. If you’re staying in South Delhi, some tour organizers even arrange jeep safaris or cycling trips inside the park, which I’ve done a couple of times. Such tours give you a much different side of Delhi than the markets and monuments do.
